There are three main components to the hot air balloon – the basket, the burner and the envelope. Let’s look at how they work together going forward.

The burner utilizes propane gas to fill the balloon with hot air. A thin metal tube carries gas to the pilot light, while a thick one sends the gas to a high pressure valve. The pilot then uses this valve to control the flame. The flame causes hot air to shoot up into the envelope of the balloon and keep it aloft.

If you are wondering what is the envelope. You cannot miss it because it is the balloon shape that traps the hot air. Made of nylon, it is designed to withstand high temperatures. Envelopes can be various colors, sizes and designs. Some companies use envelopes for advertising purposes.

The basket is used for carrying passengers. Wicker, a flexible and strong material, such as those used in outdoor furniture, is used to make the basket. The norm for the basket is to be able to sit six people.

Good preparation is important when going for hot air balloon ride. Normally, a hot air balloon ride is conducted just before dusk, or during dawn. Generally, the wind is very good for hot air balloon rides near dusk, or at dawn.

There is no need to dress for winter, but you will have to dress lightly with cotton, or even with a jacket. Throw in a hat or sunglasses for more variety.

Generally, many rides take about one to three hours.

A so-called chase crew will be following the balloon on the ground. Upon the landing of the balloon, the chase crew will help collect the equipment and passengers.

Camera is almost a must. Take shots from up there, and you will almost feel like God looking down. Because no one’s ever absolutely sure where they’ll land in a hot air balloon, an adventurous sightseeing trip after the ride is always a fun idea!
