When you go on vacation do you travel or stay at home? There are many things you can do around your own house with out traveling. But most of us like to see new things when we travel or go on vacation. If you want to make the most out of your vacation you need to be ready and prepared for anything and everything.

Unfamiliar locations, when we are on vacation for instance, seem to be the most likely times when things will start to go wrong. Often these problems can leave a bitter taste in the mouth and leave you with a dislike of the destination, its people and cost a great deal of money. At the extreme end you may have to spend time at the local Police station giving statements and filling out reports. Always use common sense if you want to travel safely, whether shopping in a local village or spending time on the beach, do not put yourself in a position where you could either be in danger or taken advantage of.

No matter what the situation is, trust what your instincts tell you as they are very rarely wrong. If you are heading out on the town to discover new bars or taking photos at the local fish market, do you really need to carry your passport, traveler’s checks, extra cash, credit cards and plane tickets? Take just what you need for the day and leave the rest in the hotel safe as it is better to lose a little, rather then everything. One easy thing to do to protect your money is not carry all of it around at once or leave it in just one location where a thief can steal everything you have quite easily.

As an added measure when using travel safely methods, carry credit cards from different accounts; should one be lost or stolen there is a second to fall back on. Many resorts are renowned for bag and camera snatching which is not so easy to do if they are over your head and shoulder. Some of the easiest crimes involve snatch thieves that may actually work in teams; they locate unsuspecting victims who have a bag on their shoulder for instance that can be easily grabbed by a passing cycle or scooter. From a criminal’s point of view, large groups of tourists are just treated as easy targets and because they do this sort of thing all the time, they are extremely good at it.

We can become complacent believing it will not happen or we are cleverer than them but this is how they make their living and in many cases the way that they feed their family every day. Carrying a small backpack can be a good idea as it can be secured with a small padlock which although will not deter the determined thief, will certainly slow down and prevent the majority from trying their luck. To keep your keys safe why not purchase one of those tiny climbers shackles and attach it to a belt or bag because it is a fiddly job trying to remove them. One of the biggest problems is with wallets as the vast majority of men carry them in a back pocket and this is an easy target for any criminal so try varying your normal routine and place it in a front pocket or similar. Many of the problems outlined above happen only when people let their guard down; traveling safely does not mean you have to be paranoid, just prepared and use common sense and you will have an enjoyable vacation.
