Ski Vacations

When I think of vacationing in the snow, I can understand why so many love to do so. I live in the northern United States, so snow is nothing new to me. Many around me say they are sick of the snow, but I have to admit that I love it. I find a good snowfall to be relaxing and peaceful. I understand why people who don’t have snow on a regular basis would want to take a winter vacation, and I know that ski vacations are quite popular in all age groups.

For me, ski vacations would be a waste because I don’t ski. I don’t know if I would even like it, though I have never tried it to find out. However, I think I would go along anyway. I wouldn’t mind sitting around a fire all day relaxing, and waiting for my companions to come back would not be a worry. I enjoy being by myself. My husband doesn’t ski either, so I would think a ski vacations will not ever be something we do. On top of that, my husband hates the snow, and is not afraid to say so. Perhaps growing up in upstate New York did that to him. You can never say never, though.

Some people think that ski vacations are expensive, but if you don’t have to fly, the price can be quite affordable. I don’t know if many other schools do this, but our high school had a skiing club. A few times a year those in the club would go on ski vacations. An advisor and a few parents would go along, and it didn’t interfere with school very much. We live very close to many great ski resorts, so perhaps that is why they could afford to go so many times a year.

Probably the best thing about ski vacations is that they can be for the entire family. Ski resorts always have beginner classes, and young children can start to ski along with the rest of their family. Most places also have other activities like snowboarding and inter-tubing. They also have rentals if you don’t have your own equipment. These can make ski vacations great fun for the entire family. If you find that no one has a talent for skiing, that’s okay too. You may find you enjoy a winter hike and a hot cup of cocoa instead.
