Activities For The Far Away Location Wedding

March 13th, 2008 · No Comments

As brides become more creative in wedding planning, locations weddings are becoming more and more popular. Although the outcome is generally a much smaller list of wedding guests, it can also result in some fun opportunities for activities.

Many brides long to have a wedding seaside, so they move the wedding to a beach locale, maybe on their local coastline or somewhere more exotic like Hawaii or the Bahamas. In any event, there are lots of activities that can be planned around this theme. If the wedding is also a weekend occasion where guests will be around for morethan just the celebration, the bride could arrange a sailing excursion. You could hire a boat for a day and invite your wedding guests out on the water to relax, rejuvenate, and perhaps enjoy a picnic meal on a deserted beach.

If the ceremony is in the Caribbean, what about a cooking demonstration? The wedding planner could organize for theguests to watch a cooking demonstration put on by the hotel chef or a local cook. Since much of the food the guests will be eating while visiting for the wedding will be very different from what they eat back home, they might like discovering how to prepare such food when they are back home.

Let’s say the wedding ceremony is in Hawaii, another popular wedding location. There, you could organize many activities around the destination. What about a luau? perhaps this could even replace a more formal or conventional sit down rehearsal dinner.

Also in Hawaii, wedding guests may like a hula lesson.

Other pre-wedding activities could be shopping excursions and guided tours and wine tasting activities, if appropriate. If you choose to offer any of these activities keep in mind that the bridal couple, or their families, will be expected to pay for the bulk of them. If you organize a sailing excursion, for example, you will be expected to pick up the bill for the trip. So do not tell the guests ahead of time that the outing will be x dollars. It’s likely that won’t sit well with them.

Because one of the great benefits of the destination wedding is that only your best loved friends and family will share the moment with you, you can organize some meaningful activities that you wouldn’t organize if the wedding were a bigger occasion. For example, you might organize a slumber party night with close friends that includes movies, drinks and popcorn in your hotel room, cottage or villa, depending on where the wedding is taking place.

If you opt for a far away wedding, for many wedding guests this may become their main vacation. In that event you may not want to schedule too many activities but instead let your guests to find their own activities and entertainment both before and after the wedding.
